POKOTABI / Soleil
それいゆ
Just steps from Soshigaya-Okura Station on the second floor, kissaten Soleil offers its hearty Rush Hour combo plate, beef stroganoff, slow-dripped cold brew Dutch coffee, and homemade desserts.
01 / ABOUT THE PLACE
Just outside the north exit of Soshigaya-Okura Station, a stairway leads up to the second floor, where the door of Soleil opens into a traditional kissaten setting anchored by warm wood tables. Hungry diners often head straight for the signature plate known as "Rush Hour." Served on a large round platter, it brings together spiced curry and rice alongside a homestyle minced beef and pork hamburg steak, scored frankfurter sausage, a fried egg, and salad. Evoking an adult version of Japan's classic children's lunch plate, the meal can be finished at leisure with an accompanying cup of coffee or tea.
Sharing top billing with the savoury menu is the cafe's cold-drip Dutch coffee, extracted slowly drop by drop using dedicated counter glassware. The resulting brew is clean on the palate, carrying deep body and a mellow bitterness with very low acidity, making it smooth whether ordered iced or hot. For dessert, guests can choose from sweet accompaniments such as a rich, smooth cheesecake served wrapped in foil, rustic pumpkin pie, or a parfait layered with coffee jelly.
The Western-style options extend well beyond the signature plate. The beef stroganoff pilaf, featuring tender braised beef and savoury sauce draped over an oval mound of rice, has long maintained a loyal following. The menu also includes curry served in a separate gravy boat as well as sandwich sets such as avocado with prosciutto, accommodating everything from a light bite to a full lunch. One flight up from the street bustle, it remains a comforting retreat for homestyle cooking and deeply brewed coffee.
